About SFRR-India

The Society for Free Radical Research-India (SFRR-India) was established in 2001 at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, inviting over 100 distinguished scientists to form its initial membership. An ad-hoc executive committee comprising 17 life members was formed based on the responses received. The operational framework of SFRR-India closely aligns with that of SFRR-Asia, with minor adaptations to comply with Indian regulations.

The primary mission of SFRR-India, alongside its parent organizations, is to advance research on free radicals and antioxidants, emphasizing their medical and industrial significance for the betterment of humanity. This entails organizing national and international conferences, workshops, educating policymakers, health professionals, and the public. These initiatives foster collaboration among scientists nationally and globally, creating a unified platform for Indian researchers and facilitating knowledge exchange with counterparts worldwide.

SFRR-India’s inaugural event was the International Meeting held at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in July 2001, attended by presidents of SFRR-Asia and SFRR-International, along with over 300 delegates, including international participants. Subsequent conferences were hosted in Lucknow, Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, Nagpur, Kolkata, Lonavala, Jaipur, Hyderabad, and Chennai, featuring prominent participation from both Indian and international delegates.

Annual meetings and conferences continued to address emerging trends in free radicals, antioxidants, and nutraceuticals, culminating in the organization of the 12th Annual Meet by CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research in Lucknow. This event featured an international conference highlighting advances in free radical biology and antioxidant research, attracting researchers from across the globe.

Looking ahead, SFRR-India is preparing for its 18th Annual Meeting, focusing on “Developments In the SCience of OxidatiVE Stress and Redox Medicine” (SFRR-INDIA-DISCOVER-2024) during 06-09 November 2024, with expectations of significant participation from both international delegates and researchers from across India. The society also fosters the development of promising students by providing travel funds for selected individuals to attend these annual meetings and recognizes outstanding contributions through poster and oral presentation awards, benefiting approximately 10 young researchers annually.
